Was your occupation also not listed in the South Australia occupation list? Then don’t you worry a lot of activity is being seen in terms of skilled migration in Australia. South Australia that had earlier invited visa applicants for certain occupations that is, 70 occupations has now started issuing the invitations for nominations. And the best part is that South Australia has opened 269 occupations instead of just 70 occupations in their migration occupation list. So everybody who’s listed on South Australia’s list will at some of the time be eligible to apply for migration. So today in this article we will be discussing the latest updates and plan for migration to South Australia.

Who can be invited for South Australia state nomination?

If there is a shortage of individuals to work in a particular profession in South Australia the state may choose to nominate Visa holders in this occupation. Apart from meeting the standard requirements for 190 and 491 visas, you must also meet the South Australian requirements for nomination. South Australian migration has its list of occupations that they are open to inviting and now South Australia has a long list of occupations. It also has its requirements for nomination like they might require if you’re onshore then you’ve been living or working there for a specific period of time. If you are from offshore, South Australia might want you to have certain years of work experience or a certain number of funds saved up to support yourself in Australia.

Required criteria for migration in South Australia

To be eligible for the 190 or 491 visas you have to fulfill immigration department requirements and further requirements for the state of your preference. State governments independently set their requirements, that you must meet in order for them to select you. These are called nomination requirements. Immigration department requirements cover the basics such as being under the age of 45, scoring at least 65 points on the points test, having a valid skill assessment, and competent English. If you look at the Australian migration website you can see that for the visa 190 invitation, you need to live and work in the state for a period of 12 months. And for visa 491 invitation, if you are onshore, you must have lived and worked in the state for six months. If you are in Australia but currently not residing in South Australia, you are ineligible for state nomination. If you are currently residing outside of Australia you are also ineligible to apply. You must be working for at least 20 hours per week or 40 hours per fortnight in your nominated or closely related occupation in South Australia. For offshore applicants, you must have at least 5 years of work experience in the last 8 years. But if your occupation is on the state list and you meet the requirements it doesn’t guarantee that you will receive an invitation. This is a competitive process and there is no set waiting list to apply for the nomination but rather a pool of applicants that are changing.

What is the process for applying for a South Australia nomination?

As per any visa, 190 or 491, or any general skilled migration visa you must first pass the skill assessment then submit the expression of interest. On the expression of interest, you would indicate that you’re willing to migrate to South Australia. Once you have lodged the expression of interest, you would then register your interest through the state nomination or the South Australia migration portal. And once you submit your interest to South Australia, you’ll provide some documentation to them showing your work experience, your skill assessment, your English test, etc. Then they will send you an invitation and you will apply for the visa through the EMU portal. Thus, do go through the eligibility criteria properly before applying for South Australia state nomination. And once you know that you fit in the eligibility criteria, upload all the documents sincerely.
