Temporary Skill Shortage visa TSS (Subclass 482) Visa

A Temporary Skill Shortage visa permits firms to sponsor foreign employees to fill nominated skilled positions for a limited period.

As part of the visa application procedure, 482 visa applicants must have an employer willing to sponsor them. Before a prospective employee can apply for a 482 visa, the employer must complete specified sponsorship and nomination requirements.

Subclass 482 Procedures

Sponsorship approval

Employers must apply for and receive permission to sponsor and hire foreign workers. A company will be granted permission to hire a certain number of foreign workers for a two-year term.

Approval of nominations

Employers must nominate the position they seek to fill with an international employee. The occupation must meet a minimal skill assessment, which needs to be done by the relevant Skill assessment body like ACS, VETASSESS, Engineers Australia, TRA etc.

Visa Application

To enter and remain in Australia, the overseas employees identified to fill the vacancy must apply for a 482 visa. The applicant must demonstrate that they have the abilities required for the nominated post, and they must be offered employment at a wage that is not less than that stated in the nomination application.

  • Medium-Term Stream: If the business wants to employ you (as an overseas skilled worker) for up to 4 years, the skill should be in the occupations list of the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL) for a TSS visa, this stream is accessible.
  • Labor Agreement Stream: If your company intends to sponsor you (as an overseas worker) and has engaged in a labor agreement with the Department, this stream is accessible.
