A Temporary Skill Shortage visa permits firms to sponsor foreign employees to fill nominated skilled positions for a limited period.
As part of the visa application procedure, 482 visa applicants must have an employer willing to sponsor them. Before a prospective employee can apply for a 482 visa, the employer must complete specified sponsorship and nomination requirements.
1. Sponsorship approval: Employers must apply for and receive permission to sponsor and hire foreign workers. A company will be granted permission to hire a certain number of foreign workers for a two-year term.
2. Approval of nominations: Employers must nominate the position they seek to fill with an international employee. The occupation must meet a minimal skill assessment, which needs to be done by the relevant Skill assessment body like ACS, VETASSESS, Engineers Australia, TRA etc.
3. Visa Application: To enter and remain in Australia, the overseas employees identified to fill the vacancy must apply for a 482 visa. The applicant must demonstrate that they have the abilities required for the nominated post, and they must be offered employment at a wage that is not less than that stated in the nomination application.
