In broad terms, parent visas can be divided into aged parent and non-aged parent visas.
AGED PARENT VISA
Further, in aged parent visas, you have contributory and non-contributory visas.
If an older parent has a child who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident settled in Australia, the visa allows them to stay in Australia forever
To be eligible to put in an application for a Parent visa, the applicant must:
- Be at an age where entitled to an aged pension in Australia.
- An Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or qualified New Zealand citizen must sponsor you. Before applying for this visa, the sponsor must have lived lawfully in Australia for at least two years. Most candidates will need to be supported by their child, spouse, or de facto partner
- Meet the balance of family test.
This visa currently has more than 30-year waiting list. You have the option of submitting your application in Australia or abroad. If your visa does not have a no-further stay clause, you can apply for a bridging visa while your visa is being processed.
Non Aged Parent Visa (Contributory Stream)
In the non-aged parent visas, we have a couple of options where the parents can pay 2 or 3 instalments of the fees of the Parent visa.
This visa stream has conditions for applying onshore or offshore and limitations on bridging visas.
The time of grant for each parent visa is different, and the applicants need to plan properly before they start a particular visa.
The amount of money needed for this visa is rather substantial, and it must be verified when the application is submitted.
The ‘balance of family’ test is used to grant parent visas. This means that at least half of the applicant’s children must be permanent residents in Australia.
